Maria Menounos
As she was caring for her mother, who is suffering from stage 4 cancer of the brain, Maria found out she was facing an illness that was her own. In February 2014 Menounos started experiencing troubling symptoms. In the cover story of PEOPLE Menounos admits that she experienced headaches and lightheadedness while on set. "My speech was slurred. It was also difficult for me to understanding the teleprompter." Menounos was diagnosed with a large meningioma brain tumor. An MRI confirmed this. Menounos had an arrangement made for surgery with Dr. Keith L. Black the neurosurgeon who is her mother's doctor and set surgery for the 8th of June. Menounos is now 39 years old. He told her, "I am 98 percent positive that the tumor is not malignant, but it is not certain until we get into there," The complex operation took about seven hours and Dr. Black was capable of taking out 99.9% of the benign cancer. According to Dr. Black, there's 7 percent likelihood that it will return. "But I'll take those odds any time." Menounos has been admitted to hospital for 6 days, is currently at home and is spending her recuperating.
